¶ Introduction
Polo Leagues and Cups can be a very daunting thing to take part in within the SecondLife ponyplay community. Due to their nature, they are often highly competative and contain teams which are very experience in the sport. They can put a lot of new players off from taking part, as it takes a special kind of dedication of masochism to jump head first in knowing you will get beaten badly.
With that in mind, back in 2021 we created a Cup at Tall Tails that would allow some of our ponies and Trainers to get a taste of what a real Polo Cup feels like, with the hopes that maybe they will catch the Polo bug and start to play it more in the future. Who knows… maybe some new CPL ponies will be born here?
The ProAm Cup is a randomized tournament. This means that players sign up to take part in the tournament and on the day of the games the teams will be created at random by placing one Amateur player with one Professional player. There will be a total of 14 Amateur players and 14 Professional players for a total of… you guessed it… 14 teams!
Games will be played using a double elimination (an explanation can be found here), as we have X teams this means that some teams will be automatically seeded to the second round. As all teams will be created by random selection, who that ends up being will not be known until the team draw in completed on the day.
¶ When & Where Is It Happening?
The event will be taking place on Saturday 26th of March 2021 at 10AM SLT, at Tall Tails. We will be using the Sky Training Platforms on sim and will use the Double Stadium configuration for the tournament, this means two games can be played at the same time. Please feel free to come and test the stadiums before hand if you wish to get some practice in.
¶ How Can I Take Part
Take part is easy! As previously mentioned there are no restrictions on who can join but we are hoping to fill most teams with Tall Tails ponies new to polo, this however does not mean we are not welcoming of others who wish to join from other stables.
Simply send a message on either Discord or via IM in SecondLife to one of the following people indicating you wish to join;

¶ Teams
- Teams will be determined by a blind draw consisting of one experienced (pro) player and one newer (amateur) player.
¶ Games:
- Games are 10 minutes in length.
- There is no overtime at divisional games. Elimination tournament games ending in a draw after regular time ends will continue until the first goal is scored (Sudden Death).
- Goals are scored by moving the ball into the coloured goal area.
- Players interact with the ball by running into and bumping it; no other method of influencing the ball is allowed.
- Running is allowed and encouraged.
- Jumping is allowed.
- Flying is not allowed.
- After goals, and before the game begins, the referee signals the start of play, vocally or with a whip command. All players should be within the defensive zone marked on the field near their respective goals to prevent “blitzing” the dropped ball for an easy goal.
- The drop of the ball does **NOT** signal the start of play. Players must wait for the command of the referee.
- The decision to stop play is the referee’s, solely. When a pony crashes or gets stuck, the referee has to stop the game. The game will be stopped for 2 min to wait until the crashed player is back.
- In case of a draw, where both teams have the same score, we will go into sudden death where the 2 Amateur players will play until 1 of them scores.
